Power of color
Mario Arlati: ancient-contemporary
Milan, Piazza S. Alessandro 4 - at the headquarters of Banca Generali
June 12-September 12, 2014

"From June 12 to September 12, 2014, the Banca Generali headquarters at Piazza S. Alessandro 4 in Milan will host "Power of Color," a journey through Mario Arlati's chromatic universe in an artistic dialogue with the great masters of the past. Curated by Elisabetta Longari, the exhibition includes 27 works created by the Milanese artist from the mid-1970s to the present day juxtaposed with historical paintings by Alessandro Magnasco, Carlo Cignani, Giambattista Crosato and others. The classical-contemporary link, subtended according to a logic of punctual and eloquent cross-references, represents an innovative proposal of great importance; an experimental example of a path of art centered on color, aimed first of all at the immediacy of perception." (from the website Banca Generali)

Designed and produced by Banca Generali in collaboration with Mario Arlati, Contini Art Gallery and Giorgio Baratti Antiquario, the exhibition featured 27 works of ancient art from the Baratti Galleries, including Portrait of Leo X by Jacopino del Conte, Landscape with Waterfall by Marco Ricci, Joseph and the Wife of Putifares by Carlo Cignani, Vase of Flowers by Francesco Mantovano, Still Life by Onofrio Loth, Cupids at play by Giambattista Crosato, Still Life by Master S.B. and The Gypsy Girl by Abraham Janssens.

The exhibition is thoroughly described and documented in a fine catalog published by Peruzzo Editore.

GENERAL BANK
presents
"Power of Color"

From the catalog Mario Arlati - Power of color (Peruzzo Industrie Grafiche, 2014):

"We are happy to open the doors of our Private Banking office in St. Alexander's Square and host an exhibition with innovative features: a dialogue between ancient and contemporary that, in its praise of color and comparison with great works of antiquity, strikes the souls with its dynamism and emotional charge.
Mario Arlati's chromatic imagination that expands from the canvas to immense skyscrapers marrying physicality and matter evokes great energy and strength and immediately struck us with the physicality and positivity it emanates. The encounter with masters of the 17th and 18th centuries such as Giambattista Crosato or Marco Ricci is evident in the dialogue on the "power of color in an experimental path that looks at the immediacy of perception and wants to be first and foremost a joy for the eyes.
Aware of the role and uniqueness of the Institutions and with the humility of those who approach new projects to offer new looks at cultural production, we chose the Banca Generali Private Banking headquarters in Piazza S. Alessandro in Milan, stepping out of the classic schemes of memory and celebration of art, in line with the novelty of the combinations and the desire to offer our guests and art lovers an original path.
Banca Generali has for years combined its commitment to service aimed at managing household savings with its attention to the territory and culture. The awareness of social responsibilities also passes through the support and enhancement of the country's excellence, among which art has always occupied a privileged space. In particular, on this front, Banca Generali's contribution often goes beyond the selection of initiatives of a sensational or communicative nature, but rather in a research perspective that knows how to provoke new insights and unprecedented reflections.
We would like to thank for their invaluable support and availability in the realization of the exhibition the antiquarian Giorgio Baratti(Giorgio Baratti Antiquario) whose splendid antique paintings have traced a marvelous liaison centered on color, the gallery owner Stefano Contini (Contini Galleria d'Arte) for his advice and the works made available, and the curator Elisabetta Longari whose extraordinary prose reveals the intimacy of the exhibition and punctuates its features. Finally, a warm thank you to Mario Arlati and the people at his side in the organization, for the passion and commitment with which they accompanied us in an exhibition that enriches above all the dialogue with our emotions."
