Through the exclusive presentation of 60 paintings from private collections, with the rediscovery of some unpublished or never before exhibited to the public, the exhibition "Men and Gods - The 1600s Genoese Collectors" aims to investigate one of the richest and most fascinating chapters of Genoese and Ligurian artistic culture: the 17th century. The exhibition, curated by Anna Orlando and set up in the spaces of the Palazzo della Meridiana, in the heart of Genoa's cultural hub of the Strada Nuova Museums, triggers knowledge relationships between the works exhibited to the public, in museums and churches, and the rich heritage of private collecting, which for Genoa has an ancient tradition and constitutes an authentic repository of art and memory.
The exhibition "Men and Gods" aims to emphasize a fundamental aspect of the Baroque, that of the juxtaposition of sacred and profane, earthly and otherworldly, human and divine. Three paintings displayed by Giorgio Baratti Antiquario in the important exhibition: The Expulsion of the Merchants from the Temple by Giulio Benso, Ecce Homo by Bartolomeo Biscaino, and Bacchanal with maenads, satyrs and nymphs by Bartolomeo Guidobono known as Il Prete di Savona. Edited by Anna Orlando and published by Sagep Publishers, the Catalog of the exhibition "Men and Gods" depicts on the cover one of the three works from the Baratti collection: The Expulsion of the Merchants from the Temple, considered by the curator to be the most representative image of the entire exhibition.
