POWER OF COLOR
Mario Arlati: ancient-contemporary
Rome, Via Vittorio Veneto 84 - Headquarters of Banca Generali Private Banking
May 13, 2016 - January 31, 2017
From May 13, 2016 to January 31, 2017, Banca Generali opens the doors of its Rome Private Banking office for the Power of Color exhibition. After the critical and public success obtained in Milan, the journey into the chromatic universe of Mario Arlati (Milan, 1947) in dialogue with the great masters of the past continues. Curated by Elisabetta Longari, professor of History of Contemporary Art at the Brera Academy in Milan, and produced by Banca Generali in collaboration with Mario Arlati, Contini Art Gallery and Giorgio Baratti Antiquario, this valuable exhibition comes from the juxtaposition of 21 paintings by Mario Arlati and historical works such as the famous The Challenge between Apollo and Marsyas by Bronzino that will be exhibited for the first time in Rome.
The classical-contemporary connection, subtended according to a logic of punctual and eloquent cross-references, represents an innovative proposal of great importance; an experimental example of an art path centered on color, aimed first and foremost at the immediacy of perception. The exhibition hosts 21 works of ancient art from the Baratti Galleries, including. Portrait of Leo X by Jacopino del Conte, Landscape with Waterfall by Marco Ricci, Vase of Flowers by Francesco Mantovano, Still Life by Onofrio Loth, Cupids at play by Giambattista Crosato, Still Life by Master S.B. and The Gypsy Girl by Abraham Janssens.
The exhibition is thoroughly described and documented in a fine catalog published by Peruzzo Editore.
