"The exhibition Imago Aphroditae. Female Beauty from the Fifteenth to the Twentieth Century, set up at the Mario Rimoldi Museum of Modern Art, aims to reflect on the theme of female iconography, and in particular on the ideal of beauty that distinguishes its features. All in the context of the diachronic development of the long succession of iconographic examples proper to the history of Western aesthetics, from the 15th century to the 20th century. The exhibition offers the visitor the exceptional opportunity to see brought together a series of celebrated works pertaining to the main canons of female beauty. These are paintings from important Italian public and private collections, as well as works from the Rimoldi collection itself. Relating to the fragment depicting the Child Jesus of the Hands by Bernardino di Betto, known as Pinturicchio, the aim was to offer a broad look at the representation of women, giving a reading characterized by the rich formal variety of more than forty works, capable of fascinating and immersing the viewer in a cultural reality of the highest quality." Visible from December 27, 2015 to March 27, 2016 at the Ciasa de ra Regoles (Italian for "House of the Rules"), the exhibition offers the chance to admire as many as thirty paintings from the Giorgio Baratti Antiquario collection, including the 18th-century Portrait of a Young Girl by Jacopo Amigoni and the seventeenth-century Danae with Sleeping Cupid by Giovanni Giacomo Sementi and Pier Francesco Cittadini.
