CARAVAGGIO AND THE GENOESE
Patrons, collectors, painters
Palazzo della Meridiana - Genoa
February 14 - June 24, 2019
The exhibition Caravaggio and the Genoese focuses on a crucial chapter of Genoese figurative culture: the first thirty years of the seventeenth century. A period marked by the dense presence in the area of Italian and foreign artists who left valuable evidence of the city's extraordinary prosperity in those years.
The selection of some 30 works distributed in five rooms aims to present all the protagonists of Genoese Caravaggism and their favorite subjects. Giorgio Baratti Antiquario contributed to the important Genoese event with the loan of the painting Portrait of a Maiden as Salome by Paolo Gerolamo Piola.
